Four city trade mission to Indonesia sets out

A 28 strong trade delegation visiting four Indonesian cities has departed.

The mission organized by Export NZ and the ASEAN NZ Business Council is with the strong support of NZ Trade and Enterprise in Indonesia and is led by Sir Ken Stevens and New Zealand’s Ambassador to Indonesia David Taylor. Indonesia’s Ambassador to New Zealand, Jose Tavares, is also accompanying the delegation.

The mission is going to Makassar (population 1.5 million), Surabaya (4.5m), Bandung (3m) and Jakarta (10m).

Delegates are from infrastructure, specialised manufacturing, food and beverage and education and are following in the footsteps of a similar successful visit last year.

Highlights this year will be attending the third annual Indonesia/New Zealand Summit in Jakarta, meeting and being hosted by the Mayor of Makassar, meeting the Governors of South Sulawesi, Surabaya and Bandung , and formal dinners in Surabaya and Jakarta.

The visit to Jakarta also coincides with New Zealand Food Week in Jakarta starting on September 8th.

Sir Ken Stevens, who chairs Export NZ said, “Our visit last year showed business in Indonesia can be surprisingly simple.

“We found the trade doors for New Zealand are open, and we were met by a lot of warmth and goodwill.

“Indonesia is particularly interested in forging business deals that can help them access New Zealand’s advanced technology, including food handling and processing technology.

“Our ASEAN free trade agreement means New Zealand can enjoy advantages over competitors, and we are seeking to increase two way trade to increase the prosperity of both our economies.”
