Business supports focus on child poverty
BusinessNZ has congratulated the Prime Minister for prioritising the issue of child poverty and will support Government efforts to tackle the problem, says BusinessNZ Chief Executive Phil O’Reilly.
“Business operates best in strong communities, and is critical to both creating and sustaining them”, said Mr O’Reilly.
“The issue of child poverty can’t be solved without thinking about the crucial role the private sector plays.”
Closeattention should be given to what government and business can achieve together,such as creating jobs, bridging people into work, and providing opportunities for workers to lift their skills, said Mr O’Reilly.
“The Solutions to Child Poverty in New Zealand report released an Expert Advisory Group in 2012 holds a number of evidence-based recommendations of direct relevance to the business community that we hope Government will take into consideration.”
