Safety and fairness in ACC experience rating

Experience rating in ACC would be a major step towards increased safety and fairness, says BusinessNZ.

“It’s only fair that employers with a good safety record should pay lower levies,” said BusinessNZ Chief Executive Phil O’Reilly.

“Experience rating is a powerful incentive system for getting safer workplaces overall.”

Mr O’Reilly said business would respond positively to today’s proposal by the ACC Minister.

“Rewarding safe practice through experience rating is a significant item on the ‘must do’ list for improving ACC.

“It is an important part of the overhaul needed to get ACC transparent, fair and fully funded and a welcome step towards broader reform of the ACC system.

“We hope to see further improvements in the near future.”
